ABOUT JOHN PAESANO

  • Paesano has always seen himself as a storyteller—one who speaks through music. From an early age, he was drawn to the language of cinema and the emotional power of film scores. That passion led him to study composition at the Conservatoire de Paris and Berklee College of Music, and ultimately to a career where music and picture are inseparable. Early in his career, Paesano worked amongst some of the most successful composers in film history, contributing to orchestral projects connected to legends like Jerry Goldsmith and John Williams. These formative experiences helped shape his understanding of music’s role in cinematic storytelling—both structurally and emotionally.

That sensibility has defined his work ever since. Known for shaping each score around the vision of the project, Paesano’s music is never about imposing a signature—it’s about building sonic worlds that feel native to the narrative. Whether epic or intimate, stylized or grounded, his music reflects the tone, rhythm, and emotional truth of the story it supports.

While deeply rooted in classical training and orchestral storytelling, Paesano is equally known for his work in electronic and hybrid scores. From the gritty, textural fusion of Marvel’s Daredevil to the sleek, emotionally charged worlds of Mass Effect and Detroit: Become Human, his electronic work is just as nuanced and cinematic as his symphonic writing. This fluency across musical languages allows him to move effortlessly between sweeping orchestral palettes and immersive synthetic textures—often combining both to powerful effect.

His work includes Marvel’s Daredevil and The Defenders, the Maze Runner trilogy, Amazon’s Invincible, and PlayStation’s Spider-Man universe—one of the most commercially and critically successful video game franchises in recent history. His scores for Spider-Man, Miles Morales, and Spider-Man 2 have earned him a BAFTA win, a Grammy nomination, and numerous other accolades, solidifying their place as some of the most celebrated in modern interactive media.

He composed the sweeping score for Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes, a continuation of one of cinema’s most iconic and critically lauded franchises, with previous installments recognized by the Academy Awards. His music helped expand the emotional and thematic depth of a series known for both its scale and sophistication.

Beyond the screen, Paesano brought his cinematic voice into the real world with original music for Disney’s Avengers Campus—an immersive theme park experience that invites global audiences into the Marvel Universe. His music plays a central role in shaping the emotional atmosphere of the attraction, further demonstrating his ability to build big, cinematic sound worlds that resonate in physical space as powerfully as they do on screen.

His versatility is further reflected in titles like Tesla, starring Ethan Hawke; Showtime’s Penny Dreadful: City of Angels, produced by John Logan and Sam Mendes; and DreamWorks’ Dragons: Riders of Berk, which earned him an Annie Award. He also received a World Soundtrack Award for The Maze Runner, and his Emmy-nominated theme for The Defenders remains one of Marvel’s most recognizable for television.

Paesano’s themes are not just musical—they’re architectural, woven into the DNA of the stories themselves. Studios and storytellers around the world continue to build upon the sonic foundations he creates, with his work referenced and expanded across sequels, spin-offs, revivals, and immersive experiences.

With a body of work that already spans blockbuster cinema, award-winning television, acclaimed video games, and global attractions, Paesano has carved out a rare space as a composer whose voice transcends genre and medium. And while his music is deeply embedded in some of the most iconic franchises of today, his creative journey is still unfolding. With each new project, he continues to expand his artistic reach—bringing bold ideas, emotional depth, and cinematic scale to the evolving stories of a global audience.
